Arch Bridge - Allentown Road

Location: Allentown Road, Ridge Valley, PA (near the Twin Churches)

The old arch bridge on Allentown Road has two arches.   This road was clearly not made for the type of traffic that uses the bridge today. Cars and trucks need to wait for traffic to pass from the opposite side.

Note how the wedge shaped pieces (voussoirs) can be seen on the arch.   Surface repairs are evident on one of the arches. Both the arch on the right and the underside of both arches have been recently cemented.

Field stones (irregular in shape) were used for the majority of the bridge structure.   Repairs don't always preserve the charm of the old stone bridge. In this view, part of the bridge looks like stone, and other parts look like cement.
