Covered Bridges - Truss Bridges

South Perkasie Bridge

Location: Lenape Park - Perksie, PA

Stream: once over Pleasant Spring Creek, now over dry land

Year: Built 1832; Moved in 1958

Length: 79 feet; Width: 15 feet

This covered bridge is very unusual because it sits on dry land, preserved by the Perkasie Historical Society.   This bridge was moved from South Perkasie.

The truss style is the Town-truss, sometimes called the lattice truss. There are 17 Town-truss bridges in Pennsylvania.   Crossing beams and the ends of the trusses are connected by wooden pins.

Roof beams are also pegged together by wooden pins.    The criss-cross pattern is also found under the roadbed.

Moods Bridge

Location: Blooming Glen Road - East Rockhill, PA

Stream: East Branch of the Perkiomen Creek

Year: Built 1874; restored in 1997

Length: 120 feet; Width: 15 feet

This charming bridge is still in use. The road is a very narrow fit for two cars. East Rockhill Township considered making this road one way, but has kept it open for two-way traffic and posted yield signs.   To learn more about the restoration of this bridge, go to the Bridge Construction section of this website.
