 Bridge Type: main span is a Pennsylvania (Petit)Through Truss

The main span over the river is a Pennsylvania (Petit)Through Truss with sub-struts. The New Jersey viaduct approach consists of five simple spans with a total length of 420'. The structural steel in the main span is 3,250 tons and 1485 tons in the viaduct spans. There are 12,420 cubic yards of concrete in the main span and the viaduct has 13,730 cubic yards of concrete. Tolls are collected on this bridge only in the westbound direction (going to Pennsylvania from New Jersey).

   
Perforated riveted built-up boxes create the upper chord.   The lower chord and tension diagonals are eyebars. Note the many rivets used to join the steel together. 
     
Eight foot pedestrian sidewalks are supported by cantilevered brackets from the north and south.    Note the triangulation used to strengthen the bridge.
