FERTILIZERS
Some fertilizers used have chemicals in
them that are harmful to the environment and others that might
be good for the environment in limited amounts. Some of the chemicals
found in fertilizers are ammonium sulfate, ammonium nitrate, calcium
nitrate, polymer coated urea, aqua ammonia, potassium nitrate,
gypsum, granuber, fertibor, copper sulfate, and chelated micro
liquids. Some other fertilizers are prilled urea, murate of potash,
and green acid.
As significant amounts of land in our area
are used for farming, the potential for fertilizers getting into
our local waterways and polluting the water is significant. When
the creek floods the fertilizers can get washed into the water,
some fertilizers leach into ground water and into the creek, and
others can get washed into the creek as run off.
