FERTILIZERS

Some fertilizers used have chemicals in them that are harmful to the environment and others that might be good for the environment in limited amounts. Some of the chemicals found in fertilizers are ammonium sulfate, ammonium nitrate, calcium nitrate, polymer coated urea, aqua ammonia, potassium nitrate, gypsum, granuber, fertibor, copper sulfate, and chelated micro liquids. Some other fertilizers are prilled urea, murate of potash, and green acid.

As significant amounts of land in our area are used for farming, the potential for fertilizers getting into our local waterways and polluting the water is significant. When the creek floods the fertilizers can get washed into the water, some fertilizers leach into ground water and into the creek, and others can get washed into the creek as run off.

 Harmful fertilizers can hurt animals that use the creek or live in the waterway.
