GYRATORS

During the time in which the roller mills were introduced into the Stover-Myers Mill, gyrators were added to sift and separate the flour products more efficiently.

 
 On the third floor of the mill, this gyrator has the equipment assembled as it was used.    Other gyrators and there parts can also be seen in the mill today. Here is a large box unit from the gyrator.
   
Inside the box, a series of screen sift and separate the flour and other grain products.     Below the box a series of boards with metal rings attached are fastened under the openings in the box.
   
Bag chutes are used to direct the grain to the proper opening below.   Gravity is used to direct the grain product into the appropriate box and chute below. The flour, middlings, and bran fall to the storage bin on the floor below.
