BLAST BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Blast Off at the H&K Quarry

Come see the H&K Quarry, located in Hilltown, Pennsylvania, and experience the "BLAST" of your life. Did you know that chemicals are used for blasts at quarries? Well, to make this blast, a 50-foot hole is drilled into the ground and a long plastic pipe is inserted into the hole to keep it from collapsing. The chemicals are put in the pipe and then detonated using a special electronic device. The extraordinary blast lasts only a second, so keep your eyes open but watch out if you have contact lenses because they will fog up.

There are from two to four people involved in the blast. Some jobs associated with implementing the blast are the driller, the person who puts the chemicals down the pipe, an electrician who does the wiring, and the operator. Have a "BLAST" at the H&K Quarry.
