Mr. Robert Hunsicker was the former District Court Justice. When Mr. Hunsicker first started as a court justice, he was a judge for the Justice of the Peace courts. In 1969, the state of Pennsylvania abolished all Justices of the Peace, and replaced them with District Courts. Prior to 1969, Justice of the Peace judges had jurisdiction up to $1000.00. After 1969 they had jurisdiction up to $8000.00 . |
Mr. Hunsicker worked in the court system for 35 years, 23 years under the new system, and 12 under the old system. Mr. Hunsicker explained to us that the position of District Court Justice is an elected position, and when your turn is up, you can run again as many times desired. Mr. Hunsicker was very important in developing an educational program through Penn State University which is offered to District Judges; this program updates judges on the rapidly changing dictates of the law.
