FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENT

In Perkasie, a fleet of 7 fire trucks is kept ready to fight fires in Perkasie, East Rockhill, and in other communities that request assistance.

This old fire truck is used for parades and rides for the public on special occasions. Note the wooden ladders.    Mechanical systems must always be kept in repair.

This fire truck features a high reach ladder.    A series of pulleys and hydraulics lift the bucket into the air.

Outriggers must be used to stabilize the vehicle before the bucket goes aloft.    Large canisters of air are also available on this truck for the firefighters.

Several of the trucks have similar equipment to fight the fire.  Safety for the firefighters includes safety belts and harnesses while they ride to the fire.

Hoses (tan near top of vehicle) are attached to pumps or fire hydrants.  These couplings on a pumper truck allow the hoses to move water from a truck onto the fire.

Metal ladders are needed to climb up the side of buildings, into trees, and to the top of barns.  From the many gauges and levers on this truck, one can understand that technical training is necessary to insure the proper use of the truck.

View from inside of the cab. Note the radio and headsets hanging from the roof of the cab.  Behind the cab are large flash lights and other equipment used by the firefighters.
