Construction of the Dam at Lake Nockamixon

The construction of Lake Nockamixon's dam began in the early October 1968 with an award of a contract to Glasgow, Inc. The dam is 120 feet high. This dam created a 6.4 mile long lake with 24 miles of shoreline and 1,450 acres of water. The deepest part of the lake is about 90 feet deep. The deepest part of the lake is located behind the dam.

This is an unusual dam because, the water must turn a 90 degree angle after going over the lake spillway. This dam is also an earth-and-rock-fill dam.

The cost of the land for the dam was approximately $2,200,865. When the was dam was completed on June 26, 1973 the cost was $4,919,946.

The pictures below are of the dam in the winter and early spring.
