Operating Room

 

The old operating room was one table in a small room (above left). The nurses didn't wear masks or gloves, only the doctor did (above right). The old operating room was used from 1929-1957. Under their uniforms they wore their street clothing. Now surgery is much safer because of improved sanitary conditions. Improved medical tools and machines are used and everyone in the operating rooms wears a special uniform, mask and gloves, as you can see in the picture of the newer operating room (below).

Uniforms

This is a drawing of some past nurses' uniforms worn in the 1930's through the 1950's. You would not see these types of uniforms at Grand View Hospital today. The dress of doctors and nurses is more casual now in non-surgical areas.
