$ Main Street Grant $

 A grant is an award of money given to an individual, group, or community to provide support for an activity. Grants can be from the government or private foundations. A lot of grants are available to help small communities in Pennsylvania rebuild, or to make improvements on buildings, parks, etc.

Perkasie applied for such a state grant and $20,000 + private matching dollars was raised by the Perkasie Olde Towne Association in 2000. another $20,000 + was raised in 2001. Perkasie was recently approved for this grant. Lieutenant Governor Schweiker came to Perkasie to make a public announcement; he was formerly a Bucks County commisioner.

This state grant will help revitalize older Perkasie properties both commercial and industrial in the town with hopes of starting additional economic development in the Borough. The grant funds will also help to improve the exterior of buildings.

The sum of $190,000 was recently awarded to Perkasie for a four year period:

  • 35,000 dollars was recieved in 2000
  • 30,000 dollars will be recieved in 2001
  • 25,000 dollars will be recieved in 2002
  • 20,000 dollars will be recieved in 2003
  • The state expects the borough to completely fund the program by 2004.

Administrative costs will use $35,000 of the money and $20,000 per year over four years ($80,000) will be used as grants to business owners for facade (front part of a building that faces a street or open space) improvements .
