HENDRICKS DAIRY |
Hendricks Dairy was located in Perkasie, PA from 1931 to 1970. The family business started in 1931 with Robert T. Hendricks and was soon being run by his son Warren Hendricks. Warren's sons Warren Jr., Darwin, and Donald learned about the business by helping with dairy operations from driving the farm truck that picked up milk daily from 16 local farms in the Perkasie and Bedminster areas to working in the dairy. The business began in a small three room building on Fifth Street (near what is now South Middle School). Several additions were added to the building over the years to handle the growth of the business.

Hendricks Dairy produced many dairy products including homogenized Vitamin D milk, chocolate milk, buttermilk, sour cream, cottage cheese and orange juice (fresh from Florida) and many other items.

The dairy used the slogan "Flavor Supreme" at the time of its 25th anniversary. The company also printed "You can whip our cream, but you can't beat our milk" on the side of its bottles for many years; this slogan was popular with consumers of the past, and with milk bottle collectors today.
Hendricks Dairy joined many other "small operators" in order to meet strict laboratory standards. They sent their samples to a centrally located lab that tested for a variety of purity and quality standards. In 1956 testing included the following tests: phospatase (pasteurization has destroyed bacteria), acidity, total solids not fat (no foreign matter added during processing), standard plate count (bacteria), ecoli (milk processing equipment properly sterilized), sediment (sediment removed), and sterile milk bottles.

The Hendricks Dairy closed in 1970 when the company was sold to Rosenberger's Dairy in Hatfield. Many employees from Hendricks Dairy went to work at Rosenberger's Dairy. Rosenberger's Dairy is the only dairy providing home delivery of milk in Perkasie in 2000.
