INFORMAL SPORTS

Some sports activities are informal in nature. Kids show up at the local playground and play a game or improvise a new game in the backyard.

Tennis at Frank R. Kulp Memorial Playground.  Kids on Second Street play wall ball against the grandstand area.

A game of three-on three basketball or other pick-up games are also popular at the playground.  Skate boarding, illegal on Perkasie's streets, is a very popular activity with many teenagers today.

COMMUNITY LEAGUES

For many years community leagues have offered sports programs to the young people in our school district. Pennridge Community League, Greenjackets, and the Deep Run Sports Association (in Hilltown) offer team competition experiences for kids. These leagues use both community parks and school buildings for practice and competition. The leagues offer inter-league competition and travel teams that compete outside the area.

The Pennridge Gators swim team also practices and competes at Menlo and Holiday House Pool in the summer. Community summer leagues organize children and teens for athletic fun and competition.

SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS

 Baseball
The photos below show the grandstand and baseball field at Frank R. Kulp Memorial Playground on Second Street; Connie Mac and Pennridge High School play here. The photo in the lower right shows the batting cage in Lenape Park next the the Little League field.

 Football
The football stadium located to Penn South Middle School is named after Poppy Yoder, former teacher and humanitarian. He worked in both the Deep Run and Pennridge Schools.

Poppy Yoder Field is the stadium where Pennridge High School and South Middle School play there home games. Many community groups such as the Pennridge Greenjackets also use the stadium. With recent renovations at South Middle School in the 1990's a new entryway and ticket booth (lower right) were added to the stadium on the Fifth Street side as well as new brick and cement plaza areas located next to the building.

The 1999 and 2000 Pennridge High School football teams have been division champions.
