POINT PLEASANT AQUEDUCT

LINING & FINISHING

Here is a view of the aqueduct during construction. Note the people in the center to help gage the size of the structure.   Inside diagonal wooden walls were put in place and then covered with a rubber liner. The rubber liner was again covered with wood to protect its surface.

The top of the liner was covered with the cap for the aqueduct side.   A small roof covers each arch section of the aqueduct providing protection from the weather.

Sides of the aqueduct are also faced with wood and are painted in the traditional red paint used throughout the Pennsylvania Delaware Canal.   Here is a view of the canal aqueduct from River Road after the liner and side walls were completed.

On the Delaware River side of the aquaduct, a walkway is cantilevered out from the main bridge structure.    Here is the walkway in use by two bikers.
