At a local cemetery (New Jerusalem Church on Ridge Road, Rt 563) we explored the meaning of monuments and markers that had been left to remind of us our ancestors. Some early markers go back to pre-Revolutionary times (1700's). When we visited the graveyard we had to be respectful of the people buried here.We didn't run and didn't jump over the graves. We learned that we could harm the gravestones if we treated them improperly. We were careful not to scrape their surfaces or knock any of these artifacts over (which could cause them to break). Each person buried at each marker is important to someone and we need to respect these feelings when we visit a grave site.
