The building located at 613 W. Market
Street in Perkasie, PA. that is presently the location of the
Metal Health Gym & Fitness in Perkasie has a long history.
For most of its history it served as a retail store and pharmacy.
On October 1926 A. A. Lesher of Palmerton consolidated two stores
(the Victory Variety Store on Market Street and the Schmidt Variety
Store on Walnut near sixth); the Market Street location was used
for the Lesher store. Lesher's 5c-10c-$1.00 Store, was there
until 1933 when it was purchased and the name changed to Neamand
Drug Store. |
In February 1939 Woodrow W. Groff purchased
the Neamand Drug Store property and business at Sixth & Chestnut
Streets in Perkasie and took possession of the business. In February
of 1945, Woodrow Groff purchased the Gegan dwelling on Market
Street adjoining the Plaza Theater (which was then occupied by
the Julie Dress Shop and the Billman Furniture Market).; this
purchase allowed for the expansion of the Groff Pharmacy in 1950. |

In 1968 Mr. Ben Chiazza and Jay M. Godshall
purchased the building and operated the business as partners
until the death of Mr. Chiazza in 1974. In September 1977 the
pharmacy name was changed to Godshall Pharmacy . In September
1975 an addition was added to the store which doubled it in size
to accommodate a surgical supplies section and a Hallmark card
and hospitality shop. Godshall Drugs operated at 613 Market Street
until they sold the building to The Metal Health Gym which is
located there today. |
