The Public Works Department operates its own trash and recycling collection program. This department also maintains the park system and bike path, and maintains borough owned streets and properties.
Trash is collected by the Perkasie Borough workers using trash trucks and special recycling trucks. The recycling program began in 1988 and has served as a model program nationwide. It is mandatory for residents to recycle with a system of Perkasie Borough bags. |
Trash bags are bought at a variety of local stores for $1.35 for small bags and $2.35 for large bags. Anything a resident does not recycle will cost them money to dispose of in the borough trash bags.
Curb side pick up of trash and recycling occurs once per week. A schedule can be picked up at Borough Hall or found at the Perkasie Borough Web Site (http://www.perkasieborough.org). | |
Special schedules are followed for yard waste, leaf collection, Christmas tree collection, and brush and shrubbery clippings. |
A large recycling center located behind the Perkasie Borough hall receives newspaper and flattened cardboard, glass (clear, brown, and green), #1 plastics, and aluminum and steel cans. Weekly curb-side pick-up of recyclable items includes glass (green, brown, and clear) and aluminum cans. |
|
Bulk trash is picked up once a month. Large bulky items such as furniture and non-motorized house appliances are collected from residential customers at no charge. A $10 fee is charged for the collection of specific bulk items.
