TURRETS IN PERKASIE

SCAVENGER HUNT 1

Can you find the location of these turrets in Perkasie, PA? Below each picture is a description of the turret. Learn about the variety of this fun castle-like feature on Perkasie buildings.  1. This hexagonal (six sided) turret appears with materials in the original slate and metal edging. Note the fish scale (rounded) shingles below the turret.    2. A wood shingled roof and iron finial adorn the top of this turret.

 
 3, This wood shingled turret is set off from this gray stone house by arch topped stained glass windows. Only part of the decorative finial remains. Note the decorative wooden beading above the windows.    4. Decorative brickwork on this building makes it unique. Arch topped windows and a simple ball shaped finial set off this slate surfaced turret. Other roof surfaces feature patterned slates.

 
 5. This slate polygonal tent roof is accented by decorative stained glass windows and 8' finial. During the summer of 2000 this roof was maintained by applying new asphalt shingles and coating the large finial with fiberglass. The roof surface now looks different than in this photo.   6. This polygonal (6 sided) turret features the original roof materials in slate and metal edging. Stained glass windows and a finial add distinction to this turret.There is decorative woodwork above these windows.

 
7. Look for the unusual finial on this turret on a polygonal tent roof of slate and metal edging. This tent roof is located on the side of this house near the rear of the building.    8. This tent roof of slate and metal edging features a finial of simple rounded metal forms. A cornice below the roof line includes simple bracket-like details.
