9. This turret is unusual because it
is placed at the rear of this brick building (most face the street) and
because of its octagonal shape. The original tent roof has been removed
and a flat roof remains. |
|
10. The top of this turret on this tent
turret has been cut to match the angle of the roof line. This brick building
once served as a rooming house and restaurant near the railroad tracks. |

11. A small gabled window accents this
slate roofed turret. A skirt of decorative brickwork sets off the cornice
below the roof line. |
|
12. The top of this turret appears somewhat
flat and out of proportion to the house. The original shape may have been
taller or accented by a decorative finial that would give height to this
architectural feature. |

13. This home features a round turret
wall that extends from the first floor to the roof. The round porch follows
the same shape as the turret. A grasshopper weather vane on top of the
turret is not original to the house. |
|
14. This neatly kept home has an asphalt
shingle roof. Note that the tent roof has been finished in the original
style. Angled window panes are found in these windows below the turret;
these angular forms repeat the angular style of the polygonal turret. |

|
15. The wood shingles on this roof show
some splitting. The original stained glass windows and a decorative finial
accent this turret. |
|
16. Original slate and metal edging are
found on the turret of this brick building. The simple windows below the
turret have storm windows and window boxes added. |
|
|
|
17. A slate roof and decorative finial
are features of this deeply corniced turret. The slates have circular
bottoms. Pilasters (resembling columns) appear near the roof line of the
turret on each side of the windows. |
|
18. This narrow turret is found on a
house with wooden shingles. The fish scale pattern on the turret is repeated
on the gable of the house shown in this photo. |
|
19. This large turret features asphalt
shingles and a finial. The traditional wooden siding has been replaced
with modern siding just below the roof line. |
