Third Street School has changed many times. It started out as a two year high school, changed to a seventh and eighth grade building and later became an elementary school. The building was sold in 1977 and converted to the Chalkboard Apartments Building. |

EVIDENCE OF THE PAST When the Chalkboard Apartments were used as a school, there was a big playground on three sides of the building. When the facility was turned into apartments the playground fence was torn down. Most of the playground areas are used today for parking. Remnants of the playground fence can still be found at the perimeter of the property. Artifacts remain today showing where the original playground fence was secured into cement footings (seen below). |
