BUNGALOW STYLE

These houses are called Bungalows. The Bungalow houses fostered an appreciation of nature as a source of spiritual and physical invigoration. The craftsman Bungalow was built and furnished to harmonize with its natural surroundings and intellectual growth.

The style started in Pasadena California. Elements such as expansive porches, French windows, and sleeping porches extend the home into the outdoors.

PERKASIE BUNGALOW LOCATIONS

Bungalow homes can be found around Menlo Park and on North Third Street in Perkasie. Bungalow homes where designed because people where looking to build a house that was cheap in material and was easy to build. The concept for the bungalow house design was to create a simple, yet interesting structure. The designers wanted a style that did not include all of the fancy ornamental detail found in Victorian homes which were popular at the beginning of the 1900's.

 BUNGALOW INFLUENCES

These homes along Fifth Street between Park Avenue and Spruce Street show the influence of the Bungalow style in their porches. However these buildings do not have deep overhanging roofs on all sides and the attention to design details is limited. Note how the sense of openness is only found on the front porch area.
