QUEEN ANNE BEAUTIES

Fifth and Market Streets

This building located at 1 S. Fifth Street was built in 1905 at a cost of $8,000.

The black shutters on this particular house match the color of the roof. The sash is white just like the border to the roof.

Like many other Victorian houses in the area, this building is made of red brick. Brick is a more durable material to use for building houses than wood.

The landscaping on this house brings out the special features.

Fifth and Walnut Streets

This building is located at 411 W. Walnut Street and was built in 1889.

This building at Fifth and Walnut Streets has a tent roof on the corner.    This is a 1929 view of home. Note the removal of the porch today and how the shrubbery helps to camouflage this design change.

An unusual roof detail sets off the window and balances the tent roof.   This view of the building is from the Walnut Street side of the structure.

Fifth near Market Street

This building is located at 5 N. Fifth Street.

This Victorian home has kept many of its ornamental details with its curved porch and turret.    A photo by Weisel shows this same home when a well was being drilled.

Extensive turnings are found on the balusters and valance details of this porch.     A new top to the turret, a grasshopper , has been added to the structure.
