This farmhouse is located at 325 W. Callowhill Street. Most farmhouses have been added on to since their original date of construction. These houses have also been modified in other ways, such as having one or more renovated rooms, or reconstruction of some elements of the homes. |
This home has a spring house building on the property today. The naturally fed spring used to be contained on the property and supply the home with water. The water was contained on one end of the overflow area for the cistern, creating a small pond on the property. |
Most of these properties had other buildings, like barns, spring houses, wells, outhouses, stone walls and enclosures, and chicken coops. Many of these buildings have now either been taken down, or left to fall apart since they are not necessary to everyday life, and do not need to be kept in good, working condition.
The properties of these houses have been divided in some cases. Farmhouses were generally built by the family that was going to live in them, so a son of the family was sometimes given a part of the property when he was getting married.
